The pistol permittee database is in thirteen files which are linked to at the bottom of this page.
Permittees are not necessarily government officers. As far as we know, a pistol permit is a requirement to own a pistol in New York State regardless of whether the weapon is a CCW (concealed carry weapon). Not every address below is a home address.
Some permittees have an address outside New York; for example, in the states of California and Florida, and in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. Examples follow.

The data should be used carefully.
Many permittees are listed more than once.
Some addresses may be wrong. For example, we think that the entry which in our site is "KONRAD, KENNETH, N, 161 CENTRAL AVE, LEVITTOWN, NY, 11756" should have Center Lane, not Central Avenue.
There are many typographical errors. A common such error is that zero and the letter O sometimes wrongly replace each other. Some examples follow. In the following examples, we sometimes supply the wrong entry, the wrong entry with our brief comment, or the wrong entry with our guess of what the right entry should be. The difference between zero and the lettter O is obvious if the examples are read in Monaco font. If one searches for a correctly spelled name but the name is incorrectly spelled in the pistol database (because the name has a zero instead of the letter O, for example), the search will fail. We don't know when typographical errors entered the data. They may have entered at more than one time and from more than one source. We checked some errors in our data with data supplied by our source (namely, cryptome, org'zip file, which we had downloaded). All of those erros were in our source. We guess that Cryptome protects its data well. Therefore, we guess that at least some of the erros entered the data before Cryptome got the data. We suspect that some of the errors are sabotage.
The pistol permit database is valuable but some entries contain errors.

We think that state and local governments are legally required to provide some information in their permit databases. As far as we know: to get a permit database directly from the government, contact the following agencies.
Perhaps little FOIA (FOIA of state and local governments) could occasionally provide an additional ground for getting permittees' names and addresses, or a ground for getting information about permittees in addition to their names and addresses.
Many, male C.O.s, security officers employed by security businesses, former police officers, and parole officers seem to have a permit. There are hundreds of addresses in the village of Ballston Spa, which is the county seat of Saratoga County, in zip code 12020. Although Ballston Spa is a mere village, more permittees seem to have a Ballston Spa address than the combined total of permittees with an address in any of the following: Manhattan, New York (as city in the address, not as state), Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island. The number of permittes in Ballston Spa is big as a percentage of the number of households there.
There are many permittees with addresses in prison towns such as Albion, Altona, Attica, Auburn, Beacon, Cayuga, Chateaugay, Coxsackie, Danbury, Elmira, Fishkill, Fulton, Gouverneur, Gowanda, Greene, Hudson, Mohawk, Moriah, Ogdensburg, Oneida, Ossining, Otisville, Ray Brook, Summit, Wallkill, Washington, Watertown, and Woodbourne.
Some entries in the state database may possibly indicate where a permittee works, as in the following examples.
